Adoption Adventure

When: Every other month
Where: M&I Bank or DNR Building, Ashland
Contact: Katharine Swanson at swanska@hotmail.com.

Adoption Adventure serves families "Up-North."

Our mission is to form a supportive network of adoptive families...families who can share information, tears, and laughter in order to strengthen our homes and support our adoptions. We believe that adoptive families - who share common challenges, interests, joys, and successes - are the true experts on the raising of adopted children. Our intention is to bring these families together to gather and distribute information relevant to other similar families.

Adoption Adventure is a resource for families who live with the reality of adoption. Members of Adoption Adventures are parents first and foremost. We face the impact of lifelong adoption issues such as separation, loss and grief. Some of us also face the adventures of: reactive attachment disorder, post traumatic stress disorder, older child adoptions, sibling groups, physical disabilities, cognitive disability, locating appropriate doctors and therapists, special educational needs, emotional disturbance, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, mental health & medication issues, sensory integration development, contact with birth/foster families, locating appropriate seminars to attend, international adoption issues, learning new parenting skills, support for birth children and respite resources.
